Nannies

The job description and the responsibilities outlined below are general guidelines only. As each Family’s needs and requirements are unique and different, the specific expectations and job responsibilities should be initially discussed during the interview and later included in the Family/Employee Agreement.

NANNY -  Childcare professional who provides individual attention and care to a child/children in the comfort of their own home.  A Nanny’s primary  responsibility is to provide for the safety and well being of the child/children but furthermore to be actively involved in their emotional, social and physical development when the child is in their care.

A Nanny’s main focus is always on children’s needs but most importantly providing a safe, caring, nurturing and stimulating environment in which a child can grow and develop.

A Nanny’s secondary responsibility may include family’s laundry, light housekeeping, organizing toys or children’s closets, running family errands, or grocery shopping. The extent of any additional tasks may vary depending on family’s individual needs and requirements.

Brief description of  what Nannies do:

  • Get the children ready for their day
  • Prepare meals for the children and, on occasion, help with family meals
  • Drive children to and from school and activities
  • Participate and supervise activities which may include games, walks, reading to children
  • Schedule and encourage play dates
  • Plan activities
  • Supervise homework
  • Supervise children’s play and provide age-appropriate activities
  • Do children’s laundry
  • Light housekeeping revolving around the childrens needs – keeping children’s bedrooms and play areas clean and organized
